Things I wish someone would have told me

knowingyalluwontlearnathingsmh:

Your identity is not a debate.

Your identity is not an opinion.

Your identity is not a talking point.

Your identity is not something to be deconstructed and scrutinized by those who wish no good to you.

Your identity is not to be disrespected.

Your identity is not to be turned into a political agenda.

Your identity is not to be used for the benefit of those who wish no good to you.

Your identity is not something you are given by someone else, it is an intimate and personal journey.

Your identity is not to be defined for you.

Your identity is not to be disrespected.

Your identity is not something that can be ‘allowed’ to you, it is something that you have every right to.

Your identity is not to be controlled.

Your identity is not a cover.

Your identity is not a punch line.

Your identity is not to be disrespected.

Your identity is a flower. It will bloom and reveal more of it’s precious details as you grow and nourish yourself.

Your identity is your strength and your vulnerability. It is what makes you beautiful and whole and human.

Your identity is to be loved and cherished as a part of you.

Your identity is way more important than those who say that it isn’t important at all.

Your identity is something that belongs to you and is not community property to discuss.

Your identity is to be respected.

You deserve respect.

And anyone who thinks that it’s okay to treat you as less than because of who you are, are not worth the shine you bring into the world.

Do not waste your time trying to give light to blackholes.
