how about instead of shaming marginalised people for conforming to the behaviours the oppressor class demands of them, we focus on removing the social and economic sanctions for not conforming?

by this i mean:

  • women, especially trans women, face serious sanctions for
not wearing makeup/shaving their legs/using deferential language.
instead of shaming women who aren’t willing or able to face those
sanctions, how about we work on removing those repercussions?

  • lgbtqqiap+ people face danger by being out. instead of pressuring
people to face that danger, a better priority would be working on
    reducing the danger

  • fat people, especially fat non-men, experience reduced social
aggression if they openly demonstrate body shame. how about instead of
blaming people with internalized fat hatred for vocalizing it, we work
on changing a culture that viciously attacks any budding confidence in a
    fat person?

  • immigrants of colour often erase their own heritage as much as
possible in order to be safe in a racist society that demands
conformity. instead of shaming them for this choice, maybe we should
look at why they feel the need to make it, and attack those problems

There are literally a million examples of this and it’s just one
more kind of victim blaming. Marginalized people who aren’t willing or
able to face danger for defying expectations that are forced on them
aren’t “letting down the cause”, they’re being marginalized. Stop pretending that oppression can be ended by simply refusing to go along with it.
