the-night-that-ends-at-last:

lungsie-ku:

so, my fellow Les Mis lovers.

today I was looking through some word definitions for a class (like a good English major) and I discovered something really interesting (and by interesting I mean the kind of discovery that makes you sit with your head in your hands for a little while)

(also maybe a ton of people already know this and I’m freaking out for nothing but we’ll just hope that’s not the case)

anyway. the word I was researching was grant

and I looked at the word’s origin, because that’s something my professor encourages us to do and it helps uncover meanings that maybe we wouldn’t immediately recognize

and this is what I found:

1175-1225; Middle English gra (u) nten < Old French graunter, variant ofcrëanter < Vulgar Latin *credentāre, verbal derivative of Latin crēdent-,stem of crēdēns, present participle of crēdere to believe

take a look at that last part. to believe. the word grant comes from the Latin verb which means “to believe”

so. grant is part of the name Grantaire.

it comes from the verb meaning “to believe”

Grantaire means “to believe”

Grantaire. the man who took good care not to believe in anything. his name means “to believe”

GRANTAIRE MEANS “TO BELIEVE”

GRANTAIRE MEANS “TO BELIEVE”

and I have a feeling no one needs me to tell them in what (or who) Grantaire believes

OH

MY

GOD
