One of the dumbest new reactionary Hot Takes in that there’s some big wave of “boyish” female characters that’s drowning out “girly” female characters. They’ll cry wolf that “women have to look boyish to be respected!”
But really, as a “feminine” looking woman, I know that women like me get 99% of all female representation. People are just mad that non “feminine” females are getting any representation at all.
Because god forbid that a character with “she” in her name (She-Ra) is allowed to look like an actual 16 year old girl instead of embodying every female stereotype in the book. God forbid Captain Marvel doesn’t have a perfect hourglass figure, and is drawn with a non-girly face that lots of real women have. God forbid the Ghostbusters can include women that, honestly, look way more like your average woman than a thin, curvy, long-haired 24 year old does.
God fucking forbid those women’s faces and bodies get replicated in media in any way.
Then women might start thinking it’s OKAY to look like that.
