So the “M Word” also know as the “Scottish Play”, also known as by it’s actual title “Macbeth” is one of the MANY superstitions held by theatre nerds, including, but not limited to, saying “good luck”, ghosts, and ghost lights.
Here’s what Wikipedia says because I’m lazy:
“Shakespeare’s play Macbeth is said to be cursed, so actors avoid saying its name when in the theatre (the euphemism “The Scottish Play” is used instead). Actors also avoid even quoting the lines from Macbeth before a performance, particularly the Witches’ incantations. Outside a theatre and after a performance the play can be spoken of openly. If an actor speaks the name “Macbeth” in a theatre prior to one of the performance, he or she is required to leave the theatre building, spin around three times, spit, curse, and then knock to be allowed back in.
There is also a legend that the play itself was cursed because the first time it was ever performed, the actor playing Macbeth died shortly before or after the production (accounts vary).Another version of this legend claims that it was the actor who played Lady Macbeth who died during the play’s first production run and that Shakespeare himself had to assume the role. There is no evidence that either version of this legend is factual.
Another legend states that Macbeth was cursed by witches because the play revealed their secrets. Another explanation claims that the original production of the play used actual witches and witchcraft, and so the play is cursed.“

IT IS NOT TO BE FUCKED WITH.
IT IS UNFUCKABLE.
You do not say the M Word.
You do not let anyone say the M Word.
Someone said it once and they fell off the stage.
Another time someone said it and their costume broke mid-quick change.
Also you should actually look more in-depth into this and other theatre-folk superstitions because they are FASCINATING. Especially the ghost stuff.

Honestly shout out to people with anxiety and panic disorders, y’all don’t get enough recognition for your hard work. Pushing through your body’s instinct to fight/flee/freeze at the slightest worry is a whole new level of strength. You’re battling almost everyday against a fast-acting animalistic response that humans have been experiencing since the dawn of time, a response that is literally designed to take full control of your actions away from you. That takes so much courage and perseverance. You’re strong as fuck.
So I’ve been exploring that map I’ve spent 900+ hours on, and I got to the big city that I built of quartz, I call it the City of Scholars, due to having a large university, and libraries, and multiple alchemy buildings. It has sprawling streets, and tons of temples. Apartments, market places, ball rooms, hidden underground tunnel systems, ect ect.
I put a lot of time and love into this city, and even after not seeing it for at least a year I’m so proud of it. Just look at the temples, they’re so pretty:
I even had a HUGE ASS CEMETERY complete with a place to hold funerals:
Also, I was really proud of the university I was working on, I never did finish it. I did complete a single classroom I can show off though!
My biggest regret though is that I built it on a superflat map. I wish I had built it on a large biomes map so I could have really had it stand with nature. It inspired me though and I’m currently working on a new city in a large biome Savannah. This one isn’t built with quartz though, but stone brick and wood. I hope it’ll still be impressive when I finished.
My favorite thing about Tom Stoppard is when a puzzled fan asked him what Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead is about, he said “It’s about to make me very rich.“
