In CoS when they try to sneak into Myrtle’s bathroom to ask her about her death, McGonagall catches them and Harry makes up the excuse that they wanted to see Hermione in the hospital wing and Minnie doesn’t give them detention and then comes this and since we all know Harry’s dumbest excuse, here’s the official suggestion to rate all of Harry’s excuses on a scale from

Harry Potter oscillates from 100% effort to coasting on a wave of apathy.

Why JK Rowling Is Not The Perfect Goddess Some Of Y’All Seem To Think She Is

sapphicauthor:

In other words: why you should maybe step away from the internet for a hot sec sweetie, because fandom isn’t supposed to be a mind control cult where we all have to worship the very ground an author walks on. People are allowed to disagree with the author! It’s a free world!

@creatorofwords uh oh, thanks for playing but try again next time!! I came with the fucking receipts for this.

Racist

1). The Nagini Thing. Making an Asian woman a slit-eyed animal is not at all good, even worse when that animal is a literal object owned by magical Hitler and used as a vessel for his soul. I don’t care what you think it is possible to have people of colour represented without racist storylines. Lots of people are talkng about this from all kinds of angles, it’s fucking bad.

2). The representation of Cho Chang. For a start, her name is actually two Korean surnames for a Chinese character so that tells you all you need to know about JK’s respect for other cultures. You should watch this video all about how hurtful the way Cho is written is for Asian girls.

3). How many characters are in Harry Potter? About five maybe are people of colour? That’s terrible!!

4). “she literally wrote a book against racism” have you considered that talking over people of colour who try to have a conversation about your white feminism and deciding you know better than them about their own experiences isn’t actually a good thing to do.

5). In the lore around how magic works, she shows that wand magic is superior to other forms. She also writes on Pottermore that white people had to show Native Americans how to use wands. This just screams of colonialist bullshit about educating the poor savages for their own good. Fuck that.

6). The treatment of the Patil twins, more side characters who are mostly forgotten except when our white heroes want to take them to the Yule Ball and then ignore them the whole time while they moon over white women. Classy.

Homophobic

1). She straight up didn’t write any gay characters then instead of acknowledging that mistake, she retroactively claims Dumbledore is gay like we should all be grateful. But newsflash, that doesn’t count as representation!! And she doesn’t deserve woke ally points.

2). This has then got worse recently because the next Fantastic Beasts film is supposed to build on Dumbledore and Grindelwald when Grindelwald is coming to power. We know that supposedly Dumbledore was in love with Grindelwald as a kid and that’s why it takes him so long to bring Grindelwald down. So its massively relevant to this film’s plot then right?? And she’s already said he’s gay so it will be made canon now right?? Wrong. She’s stated she’s not doing anything to do with it at all. Because she loves getting fake ally points but hates actually doing anything.

3). Everytime queer fans tried to bring this up, even very politely, she blocks them and accuses them of bullying. Is that really anyway to treat lifelong fans just because they raise an issue they’re worried about? Especially when its her books that helped teach a lot of us to speak up when we see something wrong.

4). The queerbaiting in Cursed Child. Now she didn’t write this one so she’s not directly involved I guess. I haven’t read Cursed Child so I can’t talk on it much but if you just google queerbaiting in Cursed Child you should be able to find out more.

5). She recently stated that the werewolves are a metaphor for the AIDs crisis. Now a). personally, I think there are certain narratives that belong to the people they happened to and the AIDs crisis would be one of them so she needs to get her dirty straight fingers the hell off of that. b). besides Lupin one of the main werewolves is Fenrir, a guy who literally just goes around biting children to turn them. That sounds massively like the stereotype from that era that gay men were just predators and paedophiles and were out to infect your kids.

Transphobic

1). She liked a bunch of tweets where terfs were saying vile things about trans women. She claims this was an accident but you tell me how easy it is to like multiple tweets on the same topic by accident (especially when they shouldn’t even come up on your feed unless you followed people with those views or searched for them). So yeah make of that one what you will but I’m adding transphobia to the list.

Culturally Appropriative

1). She uses Native American mythology within her works, things that Native American groups have specifically asked her not to use because it is still an active part of their culture and it’s therefore offensive to portray it as “part of fantasy.”

Abuse Apologism

1). Despite including messages in the HP series about the seriousness of abuse she continues to support having Depp in her films and goes so far as to speak up for him despite the fact he beat his wife. She dares to call herself a feminist despite this.

2). Has the house-elves as stand ins for slaves but it’s okay because they like being slaves! They’re happy! Let’s laugh at Hermione for helping them!

JK Rowling is very much the kind of rich white lady who might have been progressive back in the 90s but then got comfortable and never bothered to learn or grow. Now she’s actively harming minority groups with her constant additions to the story and it’s bullshit.

I’m not saying you can’t love Harry Potter (I love Harry Potter!). But stop sending these kind of messages to people who don’t love JK, it’s honestly pathetic. You have a brain, think for yourself and stop believing that she can do no wrong. it’s kind of weird… no human being is perfect.

If you love a series so much that you have to insult people who disagree with the author despite all of the incredibly valid reasons they disagree with the author, then you really need to get a new hobby. it’s not healthy for you, it really isn’t. If you’re genuinely bothered or upset by people criticising an author, you need to take a step back.

P.S. Google is right there and all of this is a matter of public record so you could y’know, read about this stuff instead of yelling at me about it.

Alternate timeline where everything’s the same except every fictional character has a different name

People in the notes going “Super Mario and the Chamber of Secrets” or “Dora the Explorer and the Goblet of Fire”

I was thinking more along the lines of

Henry Porter and his friends, Remy Wesley and Harriet Gauger

Or Super Michael and his brother, Luis

Rosa the Explorer

Twilight, a love story between Edwin Cooler and Isadora Jawan

The show Friends, with our six beloved characters: Rochelle, Monique, Phoenyx, Joel, Roscoe and Channing

this is the only good addition to this post

Dumpsterfire roared, “DID YA PUT YER NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIRE LARRY”

the only other good addition

This makes me so happy, to be honest. The woman who played the character herself acknowledging it’s okay for us to relate to Luna, especially if it helps us feel at peace with our oddness, gives me hope.

Ableists, DO NOT TOUCH THIS POST.

This is great, and Evanna is a fantastic ally, but how’s about a link to the article? Here it is.

The thing that really irritates me about all of this bullshit with J.K. Rowling is that I see broke, stressed out college students writing fics for $0 who are painstakingly seeking out sensitivity readers to beta stories that only a small subset of a fandom will ever read, whereas Rowling, who has all the goddamn money in the world, is basically just looking up world mythology stubs on wikipedia and calling it a fucking day.

She could literally afford have a university’s entire critical diversity studies faculty on retainer just for kicks if she wanted, but won’t make even the slightest effort to do better.

Headcanon that an outraged 6-year-old Charlie Weasley writes to an elderly Newt Scamander wanting to know why Gringotts keeps a dragon locked up underground and begging him to fix it. Newt writes back saying that sadly he’s been fighting that fight for years and no one ever wants to listen to him because the powerful families whose money is being kept safe by the dragon always shut him down, and that Charlie is the first person he’s heard of who’s as angry as he is about it. Charlie decides that day to dedicate his life to finding out everything he can about dragons so that one day he can free the poor Gringotts dragon. After the war, when they hear that Harry, Ron and Hermione freed the dragon, they celebrate and immediately begin petitioning to have it made illegal to imprison dragons so that nothing like that ever happens again. It’s only when Hermione becomes Minister that it’s finally signed into law.

This is the best Harry Potter headcanon I’ve ever seen

yes yes yes

Just imagine how that conversation would go though, like Charlie’s been learning about dragons his whole life, studying them, learning about the laws surrounding them, practising the jailbreak of dragons by smuggling one out of Hogwarts, preparing for the moment when, one day, he can free the Ukrainian Ironbelly from Gringotts.

And Ron’s like “Oh, yeah, don’t worry about it—we broke into Gringotts and used him as our get-away vehicle. He’s just chilling in the wilds somewhere now so, yeah. Job done.”

I want an AU where Ron, completely convinced that he’s overshadowed by all his brothers and will never be as remarkable or as well-recognised as any of them, just accidentally achieves all of their major life goals without noticing. They’re all super jealous and think of him as The Golden Brother and he’s completely clueless.

I’m not sure this is an AU to be honest.  I mean:

Bill Weasley:  Curse-breaker, works for Gringotts breaking into cursed tombs and distributing valuables to heirs.  Ron Weasley both broke into Gringotts itself and destroyed the ultimate cursed object, a Horcrux.  Check.

Charlie Weasley:  Aforementioned dragon stuff. Check.

Percy Weasley:  Social climber, status seeker, desperate for attention and approval from his superiors.  Ron:  Literally married to the actual Minister of Magic.  Check.

Someone else add on to this with Weasley-twin eclipsing stunts and hijinks, I’m sure there are some but my brain isn’t thinking of them right now.

Charlie:

The twins had it worse than anyone.

They wanted to be the worst troublemakers Hogwarts has ever seen?

Ron stole a flying car, flew it from London to Scotland (breaking the international statute of secrecy so many times in the process), and then crashed it into the Whomping Willow. In his second year.

They wanted to use the Marauders Map to learn all the secrets of Hogwarts castle?

Ron helped discover the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets, managed to sneak into the Slytherin common room and had weekly meetings in the Room of Requirement. Oh, and he also managed to top it all of by discovering the secret of the Marauders Map itself.

They wanted to at least make sure that they ended their last year at Hogwarts as the main talking point in the school— y’know, since they put so much effort into all those cool pranks and things?

Ron only goes and takes part in a battle at the Ministry of Magic, during which actual Lord fucking Voldemort shows up and posesses his best friend, safely ensuring that nobody’s going to be talking about that cool swamp the Weasley twins made anymore.

One of the main reasons they started Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes was that they knew that Ron wasn’t interested in starting a business and so was unlikely to one-up them in that regard (and then he ended up becoming a partner in the business…)

For years, whenever Ginny confided in her older brothers about her crush on Harry, it was a running joke with all of them except Ron (who never knew about it) to tell her that she’d better get a move on, whatever happened, lest Ron steal her dream too and propose to Harry.

A list of reasons I’m divorcing J.K. Rowling and no longer acknowledging anything Past Deathly Hallows

  • None of it makes sense or really adds anything to the story except ‘ooh! A twist!’
  • She took the The Boy Who Lived To Idolize His Parents, and made him into a terrible father, who told his son he wishes he wasn’t born.
  • Made lycanthropy an allegory for HIV/AIDS, AFTER Lupin was turned as a child, by an adult. Not only does this tick the box for pedophilia, but painting homosexuals as predatory by nature.
  • Delphi. Everything about her. Including that she exists.
  • During the actual series, wandless magic was incredibly difficult to do, and only harnessed by very dedicated, powerful witches and wizards. Then, when writing about it in reference to Native American witches and wizards, suddenly, they needed Europeans to come along and teach them how to use wands.
  • Dumbledore being gay, whilst having none of his romantic relationships touched on in the series, even when his adolescence is delved into.
  • Taking from other cultures (Indian and Native American, for example) to add things to the series, with no credit due to those cultures, and no mention of even a character from those cultures.
  • Nagini somehow being a human originally, when it was previously never even alluded to, despite J.K. apparently ‘sitting on this for the last 20 years’.
  • Nagini, the literal PET of a white supremacist, was a woman of color.
  • Outside of the series, JK Rowling is a known TERF.

None of these things she attempts to shoehorn in feel even remotely natural to the story, and it’s painfully fucking obvious they’re last-minute ‘gotcha!’ twists ripped off ff.net or ao3. She’s destroying the series by trying to keep it relevant, when it could maintain relevancy all on it’s own by being passed down through families and the fandom all on it’s own.
