“…he told himself that he really had not suffered sufficiently to merit so radiant a bliss, and he thanked God, in the depths of his soul, for having permitted him to be loved thus, he, a wretch, by that innocent being.”
They like to sit around and complain about all the noisy, naive students.
They’re working on a business plan together so that they can start a company with Valjean’s money and experience and Feuilly’s skills and determination.
Even though JVJ likes Marius, he can’t help to wish sometimes that it was Feuilly who was marrying his daughter.
He’s just such a fine young man and sometimes he gets teary-eyed thinking about how amazing and kind and clever this boy is.
Sometimes when Feuilly comes into the musain, the Amis jokingly says “oh look, Cosette, your new dad is here!”
They go fishing together
Feuilly absolutely adores JVJ because he’s just such a good man okay and he looks up to him like the father he never had
And Jean Valjean just loves having him around because he’s so clever for his age and he comes with great advice.
They share the same horrible humor and Courfeyrac will actually leave the room when they both show up because he “can’t handle this madness!” (if he doesn’t leave he’ll end up crying of laughter in a pile on the floor)
Feuilly and JVJ constantly making dad jokes.
jean valjean: he gave me the most precious gift you could ever imagine
marius: love?
jean valjean: 10 pounds of pure silver, actually
This is your friendly reminder that if Jean Valjean managed to raise Cosette right after all they both went through, to become an honest man, to go from a number to an alias to a full name and to turn his bitterness and resentment into forgiveness then you can pretty much do anything
modern au where valjean not only gets a father’s day gift from cosette, but also from marius, eponine, and gavroche. actually the rest of the amis give him gifts too. he doesnt really know when, why, or how he became an honorary 2nd father to 10+ sorta adults, but he loves them all anyways. hes very overwhelmed and touched and happy and in at least 3 cards he is addressed as Father Supreme.
also, the more i think about it, the more plausible it is that javert never recognizes valjean in m sur m. it’s kinda like the argument for why no one ever realizes clark kent is superman? because no one expects superman to ever masquerade as a human! it’s beneath him! and ridiculous! so not only has it been years since javert saw jvj (who also has to look a lot different when not starving and in rags and covered in grime), he would also just. never expect him to be mayor of a small town?? he’s a convict! he wouldn’t dare–he wouldn’t be ABLE to rise to such a position. so even if javert ever did think he looked familiar, or reminded him of 24601, he would have dismissed it outright because it’s just beyond comprehension that a prisoner could ever become this. there’s too much of a cognitive dissonance between a man he looked down upon as evil and less than human and the man he looks up to as a perfect model of respectability and authority.
until he lifts the cart. because, you know, if you saw clark kent lift a car, your passing comment that he resembles superman starts to become a lot more suspicious.
~prosopagnosia Javert~~~~ I have a whole post about this somewhere that I wrote like a year or more ago that’s exactly this so uh yes? Yes.
