I am so fucking angry right now.

Today on Twitter I have seen several tweets about the accounts of people who identify as queer being suspended for posts where they talk about being queer…

For “using a slur”.

This was absolutely forseeable. This is 100% what “just so you know, IT’S A SLUR” aimed at people using the word queer to describe themselves and their activism was leading to.

I’ve seen “gay” used as an insult in my life WAY MORE OFTEN and YET

Worse, there’s reason to believe that these Twitter accounts were suspended because alt-righters and Nazis reported them for using “queer” as a way of getting revenge for all the Nazi accounts that have been suspended lately.

What did I keep warning about? What did I keep saying? That if we keep ‘problematizing’ words that living, breathing LGBTQ+ people use to describe ourselves and our reality, we’d end up where they would be used against us by precisely the individuals who hate us the most. Something that would have never happened had a term’s reclaimed status been respected, instead of people constantly screaming that it’s a slur, in any and all situations.

i’m so tired of liberal media creating gay-coded characters that end up being straight all along. characters like janis ian from mean girls or manny delgado from modern family are written to seem like they’re gay and every aspect of their personality indicates that they’re gay, except! they’re not! straight people are soooo progressive cause the characters they make are so complex and complicated that they’re basically gay but not!

and it’s not just bad that we’re deprived of representation once again, but characters who act like us and look like us and emulate us are jokes. these characters are “weird” and “annoying” and “different from everyone else.” they’re bullied for being the way they are, but oh no, it’s funny! and straight audiences reaaally think it’s funny and absorb it and internalize that behaviour.

straight liberal media will create characters like this and applaude themselves for “diversifying” their shows and movies because “straight people who seem gay matter too and need representation as well!!!”

straight masculine women and straight feminine men exist, but there’s nothing revolutionary about portraying them in the media. not ever on the same level as it will be to represent actual gay people.

My irl lgbt friends are always so shocked when I tell them about tumblr discourse and I almost feel bad telling them

Like the lgbt+ club I go to has gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, pansexual, asexuals, aromantics, binary trans people, non-binary people etc, and we all get along. We never fight, or at least never about stuff like on tumblr

As long as I’ve been going they’ve been inclusive of ace and aro people

I’ve seen the bi and pan people defend each other more than argue

There’s never been any question over whether or not nonbinary is a real thing

Wlw/mlm solidarity is strong as ever

I guess I just want to say. There is hope. Not every where in the real world and on the internet is going to be plagued by infighting and discourse. You will always be welcome and supported in the community by someone somewhere, no matter how loud the voices are that tell you you don’t belong
